History of M-C Community Library

 

In August 1985 a joint community committee submitted a Library Service and Construction Act Grant. Matching monies were received from the M-C School District, Cleghorn Public Library, Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation at Mason City, Iowa, individuals, businesses, and service organizations.

Plans were drawn for a 72' X 44' brick building on the southeast corner of the school property. Construction began in April, 1986, and was completed in September of 1986. The joint school/public library has a meeting room with kitchenette, movable shelving, storage room, librarian work area and is handicap accessible.

 A 28E Agreement was created in case the M-C School District would dissolve or reorganize. Since the joint school/public was established the M-C School District has reorganized with Marcus creating the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Community School District.

 3 members appointed by the School,
 3 members appointed by the City of Cleghorn
 and 1 member at-large.
